The roots of a banyan tree undulate with gentle curves much as a string vibrates on a musical instrument.
These are the roots of one of the many Banyan trees in Balboa Park (also known as Moreton Bay Fig trees). Although the trees are not native to Californa, they have been in the park for over a hundred years, so I consider them truly at home. I could not imagine the park without these awesome giants.
This particular tree has always fascinated me with it's undulating roots and I've come to visit it many times. In the past, I've tried capturing the root system and I always tried to show how massive they were using with a wide angle lens, but I was never quite happy with my images. This time I had a small epiphany and realized that I needed to focus on the beautiful curves of the roots instead of trying to capture everything.
