A boy rides the merry-go-round carousel at the San Diego County Fair.
I took this shot in June 2018 at the San Diego Fair. I worked on it and then put it aside for a few months because I needed some time to think about how I wanted the final image to look.
When I first took the photo, I was really happy because getting a sharp panning shot of a rider on the merry go round is very difficult. The riders aren't moving linearly -- they are rotating around the center of the ride and moving up and down vertically. I actually first started trying to make this image in 2017 where I went several times to try and get this. Never succeeded despite hundreds of shots. Came back again this year, took a few hundred more images and this is the only one I liked. In most of my shots the rider is a complete blur and barely recognizable as a human figure.
