Looking out of a wind cave in Anza-Borrego. The center of the frame is filled with the sun leading to a sunstar (flare) in the picture. The photo has warm, earthy tones.

The View | Wind Caves, Anza Borrego

The wind caves are an incredible rock formation located in the Carrizo Badlands of Anza Borrego. Here the exposed sandstone has been eroded into fantastic shapes including dozens of caves. As you might know I really like photographing caves so when I arrived, I immediately went inside to explore and find photographic compositions. It was close to sunset and when I was in one of the larger caves, I noticed that the sun was lined up in the center of the entrance and began to light up the cave walls with a glorious warm light. I had to photograph it. From what I understand, the caves were used as shelters by Native Americans. Imagine living out here and seeing this spectacular view daily!

Medium: Archival pigment print with acrylic facemount

This is a pigment print where the front has been directly mounted with an adhesive to a sheet of ultra clear, scratch resistant, and non-reflective acrylic glass. This process is known as face mounting. The acrylic captures light internally resulting in a display with incredible visual depth and vibrancy. With proper lighting, the acrylic print will appear to be back illuminated with the light emanating from the image itself. The print comes ready to hang with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print off the wall.
