Moonlight Triumph is an artwork showing the moon rising above the California Tower and Dome in Balboa Park by photographer Stephen Bay. The photo depicts the scene as viewed through a natural frame of trees. The sky is a dark blue with some clouds picking up orange tones from the moonrise.

Moonlight Triumph | Balboa Park

This is the full moon rising over Balboa Park. The neon colors are from the seasonal flood lights pointed at the California tower and dome. This photo took a bit of planning and was nearly two years in the making as I waited for the right conditions. Moving a foot to the left or right and the opening in the trees wouldn't have aligned with the moon and buildings. I almost couldn't believe it when I saw the moon line up even though I knew it would happen due to the path of the moon and trigonometry. I felt so triumphant that I finally got the image I had been seeking.

Note: this is not a composite and the scene was captured in a single photograph.

Medium: Archival pigment print with acrylic facemount

This is a pigment print where the front has been directly mounted with an adhesive to a sheet of ultra clear, scratch resistant, and non-reflective acrylic glass. This process is known as face mounting. The acrylic captures light internally resulting in a display with incredible visual depth and vibrancy. With proper lighting, the acrylic print will appear to be back illuminated with the light emanating from the image itself. The print comes ready to hang with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print off the wall.
