A cool summer night in the desert by the Valley of the Moon in Jacumba, California. The milky way core is rising above the sandstone rocks in a dark blue night sky filled with stars.
This weekend I headed out to Jacumba and the Valley of the Moon with a friend to do some hiking, exploring, and of course photographing. It was hot, 94F, when we started hiking and we were faced with a brutal uphill climb at first. Thankfully it cooled off pretty quickly as the sun started to set. The rest of the hike was uneventful -- I was worried about rattlesnakes but didn't see any. The trail was also a little confusing with many turnoffs and forks but thank god for offline GPS maps. We found this hidden gem right by the border with Mexico.
