The Milky Way galaxy is visible between an old, weathered juniper tree and a sandstone monolith in Joshua Tree National Park. The warm tones of the stone and tree contrast beautifully with the cool blue night sky.
I just made a trip out to Joshua Tree during this past new moon. Although I've been in San Diego for a few years, this was my first visit to the park. I spent two days scouting locations and staying up all night shooting the Milky Way (there's no May gray here). This classic scene of the juniper and monolith in Jumbo Rocks was my personal favorite — i love the juxtaposition of the weathered tree with the monolith and stars.
