Desert Symphony | Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

A collection of cholla cacti, blooming purple sand verbena, and ocotillo plants come together in a harmonious symphony of color in the Anza-Borrego desert.

The Story Behind the Photo

This year we had an incredible amount of rain and it was the wettest winter that I've experienced since moving to California many years ago. I even learned about atmospheric rivers which wasn't a term I heard about growing up. Now the rain resulted in many gloomy days and it seemed like it would never end. While this was a bit of a downer, the flip side is that we get glorious blooms during the spring.

I made multiple trips out into the Anza Borrego desert to find just the right scene with a perfect wildflower bloom. Had many adventures including getting stuck in the sand far away from the nearest road and not being able to dig our way out (luckily a park ranger happened to come across us). After a few trips, my friend and I decided to explore the June wash area in the southern part of the park.

On the last day, we saw some purple hillsides in the distance. It's a bit of gamble to hike far in because you never know what you'll find and if you spend too much time getting there, you may not be able to get back to your original position in time for sunset.

However our bet paid off and we found a veritable oasis of chollas, purple verbena and ocotillo plants. So amazing to see the rain transform a barren inhospitable desert into a beautiful garden with a symphony of colors.

Acrylic Fine Art Print with a Float Mount — Ready to Hang

Trulife Acrylic Fine Art Print

This is a photographic print where the front has been directly adhered to a sheet of TruLife acrylic which is an ultra clear, scratch resistant, and anti-reflective glazing. This process is known as face mounting. The acrylic captures light internally and bounces it off the surface of the print resulting in a display with incredible depth and vibrancy. With proper lighting, the acrylic print will appear to have light emanating from the image itself. The back of the print is sealed with another layer of protective acrylic.

The print comes ready to hang with hidden mounting hardware on the back that makes the print appear as if it is floating in front of the wall. No additional framing is needed. Choose this medium for a modern and minimalist presentation.

Print is signed and numbered on verso (back).

Please allow 4-6 weeks for production and delivery of your print. The prices include U.S. shipping, please inquire for international rates.
